Thoppil House

Welcome to Thoppil House, a Diamond Classified heritage Home Stay, nearly 115-year old located right in the heart of Kerala's capital city, Thiruvananthapuram at Palayam.

Initially the ancestral house of India's well-known tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi, the house was bought by late Mr. Thoppil Abraham John in 1975. His family's efforts at maintaining Thoppil House have retained the beauty of the colonial bungalow. Currently Mr. John's wife, Mrs. Saramma John and her younger son, Mr. Tony John - lead singer of the leading Indian Rock Band 'Avial', reside in this house and they will be your hosts during your stay here.

Literally translating to 'House of Groves' in the local language Malayalam, Thoppil House is the epitome of old Kerala architecture of the late 19th century. Ancient wooden staircases and old doors made of Indian teakwood take you in to a different world. The accompanying furniture complements the beauty of this architecture: some of them being handed down from generation to generation in the Thoppil family. Other furniture including rare ones such as the valavara petti that was used to store kathakali costumes are hand-picked pieces collected by Mr. Tony John, who is also a connoisseur of antiques and vintage furniture.
